Lost Restaurants of Portland, Oregon!
My sixth book is now available, via Amazon, and Barnes & Noble and published through the History Press.
My new book, my sixth book is available for pre-order, the long awaited history book, Lost Restaurants of Portland, Oregon! I worked on this book for over 3 1/2 years and worked hard on putting together a book that would have something for everyone. If you are interested in the history of long ago shuttered Portland restaurants, then this book should be an entertaining foray into the strange goings on and unexpected happenings at some of Portland’s most well known restaurants.
From wandering young deer crashing through plate glass windows, to murder at the Lotus in the middle 1970s, to disruptive patrons of the Quality Pie in Northwest Portland, the stories are amusing and there are many of them. They come from former employees, managers and owners and run the gamut of things that can happen in a restaurant.
“A full menu of unforgettable events and historical milestones.
Delve into the Rose City's colorful and sometimes tumultuous past through the memories, meals and recipes that put these bygone restaurants on the map. From The Quality Pie, a favorite of Portlanders from all walks of life, to the River Queen, which enjoyed a long and storied life as a working vessel before becoming a stationary restaurant on the Willamette River, visitors and locals alike have enjoyed a unique variety of eateries. Celebrities once enjoyed steak dinners in the Barbary Coast's Roaring 20's Room while Café Lena offered simpler fare to poets and dreamers in search of a relaxed atmosphere.
Join author Theresa Griffin Kennedy for a sumptuous tour of Portland's shuttered cafés, diners and grand dining rooms.”
There will be a print newspaper article detailing the various restaurants covered in the Hollywood Star News, coming this Friday, with four pages of photographs covering several restaurants on the North End of town.
The papers will be available at the Albina, Gregory Heights, Hollywood, Kenton North Portland Libraries, and at the New Seasons on Interstate, Williams and Broadway, and at the Fairley’s Pharmacy.
Hi Theresa, I just read the Star article about your new book. Congratulations! I am going to get my copy this week. I’m sorry that I didn’t know you were looking for history and photos for your research - my Grandma Adina worked for Maria’s Swedish Dinners and I have several photos from the restaurant including one of the exterior. My mother always remembered those days and Horst. She didn’t like him very much and always said he did a “hostile “ takeover of Maria’s. Not sure what that meant!
Really looking forward to reading the book!
Hi! You shared a comment on Dead Memories Portland, and I may have used it. I’ll have to check and get back to you about it. Thanks so much for your comment! I think you’ll like it. It’s a really fun book. 😊
