This is my first Podcast book review of the 2004 memoir Another Bullshit Night in Suck City, by Nick Flynn. Number one, this is a great book. I encourage everyone who hasn’t read this book, to pick up a copy. It is well worth the read.
And naturally the book has been made into a film as well, called Being Flynn. Honestly, I think the film would have done better if the producers had kept the original title, Another Bullshit Night in Suck City. If people had seen that as the film title, more people would have been interested in seeing it, because frankly, the title is genius and brilliant, the phrase coined by Nick Flynn’s father, Jonathan, himself.
If he gave anything to his son, Nick, in a lifetime of avoidance of work, alcoholism and perpetual fruitless wandering, perhaps a love of books and of writing was the best gift he could offer.
