I have to admit I’ve never given my bed frame much thought. The great thing about my bed is that the headboard makes a great bookcase. Now that you mention it, though, antique cast-iron bed frames are beautiful.

They sure are. I love them. I refinished my first one in 1991, painted it white with gold accents. But now I lean to tri-color, which is how most of them were painted originally. Though back then, they were mostly pastels. I've come across some old advertisements and the color combos are funny. Pink, lavender and pastel green. And other odd but pretty shades. I use car paint, automotive paint, and it's so lovely. It has fleck, high or low and so it shimmers and sparkles. I'm still working on one. The paint has the viscosity of water or oil, so you have to stir it a lot and then apply multiple coats by hand, about eight... it is time consuming but the paint is extremely durable and dries quickly and very hard. It's not like other paints, like enamel, which are fluffy and porous when wet and have drippage. Car paint will not have drop marks. It is so much like oil, but gives the frame a much nicer look. I wish I had more time to devote to the frames, but... One of them is very heavy and old and ornate. When I complete that one, I'm going to charge $3,500 and some fool from out of state will pay that much. LOL..
