Even Fido wants change on the Multnomah County Commission
I’m running to be your next County Commissioner in order to stop the chaos of crises and bring a period of pragmatic calm to local politics by running a more efficient and honest government. The message of competency and common-sense change has resonated throughout our district, and I am thankful for your support and the support of so many people that want a government that not only promises a better future, but actually delivers. Recently, I was surprised that this call for change was resoundingly supported by… man’s best friend.
We need to improve Animal Services
You see, for years Multnomah County Animal Services has struggled with overcrowding, outdated facilities and staffing shortages. A 2018 audit recommended 15 urgent changes to fix the shelter issues, but as of this year nearly half have not been implemented. And in the news this week we learned that neighbors in SE Portland reported animal abuse for years to Animal Services, but nothing was done to help 15 needy animals until a Deputy District Attorney coincidentally heard about the abuse and intervened. The lack of urgency at the County is startling, whether we’re talking about the ambulance crisis, the housing crisis, the fentanyl crisis, the mental illness crisis, the homeless crisis, or now – the Animal Services crisis. That’s one of the reasons why the County Chair only has a measly 11% approval rating.
With your help, we will change this culture of incompetence so that people, and their furry friends, get the help that they need. That’s why I’m endorsed by Humane Voters Oregon, as well as Chica, my dog rescued from San Antonio by One At a Time PDX.
Oregonian reporting on Dark Money in this election
The Oregonian and reporter Shane Dixon Kavanaugh have done some outstanding reporting about how my opponent is benefitting from dark money in a blatant attempt to buy this election. On October 18, The Oregonian reported that Progressive Voice for Oregon (PVFO) has raised $175,000 to help fund a slate of candidates, including my opponent. On October 19, Shane Kavanaugh tweeted that PVFO received $100,000 from an out-of-state group that has never before spent money in Oregon. On October 22, The Oregonian reported that various PACs, like East County Rising PAC, are bundling money for Portland Voters Guide PAC to oppose numerous pragmatic city and county candidates such as me and Sam Adams.
Why is this important? To date, my opponent in this election has directly received only 194 contributions. Even though I joined the race months later, I have received 493 contributions thanks to supporters like you. In light of that disparity, it’s pretty evident that the aforementioned Political Action Committees are trying to buy this election.
We will succeed in changing the culture on the Multnomah County Commission, but now more than ever I hope to count on your support.
As always, I appreciate hearing from you, and I appreciate your support!
Thank you,
As we quickly approach the November election, please consider ways in which you can support this campaign:
Make a donation. Every dollar the campaign receives is one more voter I can reach.
Come join me and other volunteers to knock on doors and make calls about the campaign. Each person we chat with is one more vote for change. We’re out several times per week, and you can join by contacting my volunteer coordinator, Andrew, at andrew@votevadim.com.
