Brilliant analysis of the barn yard bullies the Republicans have become. I believe the last good Republican was Eisenhour who must be turning over in his grave.
Too many people have fallen in love with the drama, the theater, the absurdity of it all. They don't seem to understand politics is serious business and should be conducted with a certain level of decorum. Call me old fashioned, but I won't lower my values just to be accepted or given some kind of weird approval. At least we see this degeneration of conduct in the same way, Don. LOL...
Ms. Kennedy has obviously never watched Prime Minister's Questions on YouTube or the BBC. The "mother of parliaments" has a line in the carpet between the party benches--what used to be the length of a sword so the MPs wouldn't be able to stab each other. And the Speaker's calls for "order!!!" are routinely disregarded. In UK-speak, it's called "barracking." Part and parcel of democracy.
But, here in Portland, we dare not make a sound. Impolite, don'tcha know?
I’ve seen the antics in Parliament. I don’t approve of that either. I’m not a conservative or a bleeding heart liberal. I’m a moderate.
But I’m not referencing Parliament here, I’m talking about how the Republicans conducted themselves like a bunch of punch drunk toddlers and made America a laughing stock yet again. Putin and the Chinese are all laughing and rubbing their hands together…
Heavens, Theresa, what ever people say about Trump, I'd bet that most people would gladly turn the calendar back to 2017 - 2019, before COVID struck, when the worst thing we had to worry about was Russian collusion. People seem to get stuck on Trump's style (the wives, his brusqueness, etc). Trump is not running for Pope. And after all that has been investigated, Trump is about as clean and unsullied as a politician can be. They tried impeaching him (twice), invaded his home, seized his tax returns, and came up with nada. Trump is not "bought and owned" by anyone, as DeSantis probably is. And for corruption and moral turpitude, you can't beat this Democratic adminstration (Never did I think pedophilia would be so embraced, and made to seem mainstream.)
The main thing is, we have a big problem with the Deep State, much bigger than is being portrayed in the mainstream news. The Deep State is likely in control of who gets to sit in the White House, who experiences sudden misfortune, and who is allowed to have political prominence. We have seen a bit of this with the Twitter files. Only someone like Trump is close to being able to oppose this incredible force. He has proven to be incredibly resilient - who else could have taken so much abuse and remained a entity so feared by his opponents?
Cast aside any nugatory biases and objections, and focus on issues of utmost importance. Our national integrity is dying on many fronts, and we are deeply in need of national powerwashing. So, no more efforts to appease and compromise. No more selecting expert counsel based on some weasel's recommendation. That didn't serve him well with COVID and key appointments. Trump was a novice then, but no more. The fact that he's attacked so much, even now, confirms that the corrupt politicians know that he is indeed their biggest threat.
Theresa: It just dawned on me that you apparently live in the Democrat cesspool called Portland. My husband and I finally escaped when the DNC sent domestic terrorists to our neighborhood in West Linn. Had been thinking about moving ever since the school district started using our tax dollars to abuse children: racist indoctrination and transgendering (2017). When BLM/Antifa thugs arrived I went to a sporting goods store to inquire about buying a shotgun. I realized that I would never be able to handle one, so we moved to our beach house on the Washington Coast. Yes, we are still living in a state that is in rapid decline, but the residents here are still normal and crime is low. Diane
I am a lifelong Portlander. Not everyone can move away. That takes money, connections and a lot of help, so it’s not an option for me. I still love Portland and hope to survive this difficult time…
"Survive this difficult time?" You make it sound like Portland is suffering through a cold winter. It took about 40 years for the Portland Area to degenerate into its current state (I know, I lived there from 1976 to 2020), and it will take another 40 years to dig itself back out IF, IF, IF, the politicians & bureaucrats wake up TODAY and start implementing SANE policies. From what I see with Kotex, Wheeler, Schmidt and the clowns in Salem they LOVE wallowing in filth & depravity and forcing their constituents to do the same.
What’s your problem? If you don’t like my writing, which constitutes far more than merely political commentary why did you subscribe to my Substack page?
Yes, it is a difficult time, but I don’t agree that Ted Wheeler “LOVE wallowing in filth and depravity…” I don’t approve of Tina Kotek and have made that known, and I despise Schmidt, so do most Portlanders, but Ted has implemented some good changes. Downtown Portland and all through East Multnomah county look infinitely better now than two years ago. The sweeps are working.
I don’t know who you are and frankly the hyperbole of your essay titles leave little to be desired in the way of wanting to read them. Creating a good title is a skill, and you are obviously challenged by that.
You insulted me in a previous comment and suggested that I was deluded or something along those lines. Why then did you subscribe to my newsletter?
And congratulations on your long stint in Portland but I’m a lifer. 57 years, and I’m dedicated to this city. Which means I won’t be leaving. And long after Portland returns to some semblance of normalcy, I’ll still be here, and you won’t. Oh well, that’s your choice.
What exactly is your agenda with me? If you’re thinking you can transform me into a Republican or other form of Conservative, you will be sorely disappointed.
I generally quite enjoy your articles, Theresa, but this is one I’ll have to disagree with. It reads like someone who is still suffering from TDS - something I believe our government and media helped create using 5th generation information warfare. Like those who still defend the vaccines as safe and effective...yeeaaa right.
In case you have forgotten, Democrats and those who disliked Trump, were given free range to say and do as they please against a sitting President. Never had the level of discourse allowed for the open call for assassination and impeachment. The media routinely took Trumps words out of context - or flat out lied and rarely, if ever, printed a retraction. To ignore this behavior is disingenuous. The media and our institutions lied about Russia collusion (this has all been thoroughly proven) and the infamous phone call with Ukraine, all while Biden and his son did the bidding of China and actually conducted “quid pro quo” with Ukrainian company Burisma. If you doubt any of this read the contents of the Hunter Biden laptop for yourself here: https://bidenlaptopreport.marcopolousa.org/. The fact that our current President is clearly compromised is far greater a threat than Trump ever posed, yet here we are talking about Trump and the conduct of Republicans.
There are countless articles that factually lay out the lies around Russian Collusion, and the Ukraine phone call - along with too many other issues to list here. Heck, the Twitter files alone (the fraction that we’ve seen) show abject censorship of conservatives and pro Trump narratives. Is it any wonder you feel the way you do about him? Have you ever questioned whether your beliefs were carefully crafted and nurtured and ultimately created through media influence and psy-op level manipulation?!
You don’t have to personally like the guy, but for goodness sakes you should really do a deep dive on the other side of this (and not through the typical mainstream sources of course.)
And finally, can we not all agree the lowest moment of any State of the Union was Speaker Pelosi ripping up Trump’s speech?!
We can agree to disagree. I am a Moderate Democrat so I often try to see both sides of an issue. In other words, I’m not a radical or extremist. I read articles from all kinds of media, not just liberal sources.
Ripping up that speech was a gesture. It did not invoke yelling, or jeering, or going on camera and saying Joe Biden is not a president but rather “a piece of shit” as Taylor Greene did. It did not involve MTG saying Obama should “be hanged” and all the other seditious garbage that woman has said, that 40 years ago would have gotten her arrested.
Also Russia is not an ally. They are and have always been our sworn enemy for decades. Collusion with Russian sources has been proven by intelligence sources in the US Government, and I have no reason not to believe that. I have dealt with people pretending to be Americans on social media for years. They are like flies, and they infest all forms of social media.
As to Trump. I’ve observed him for over 35 years, lying through his teeth, cheating on all his wives, and conning legitimate businesses out of goods and services for decades. I have never been a supporter of Trump, but have always seen through him, as the criminal, and pathological liar that he’s always been.
I’m 57-years-old, I’ve been around for a while. I didn’t just discover Trump in 2016. I’ve seen him in action since at least 1980, and certainly since he dumped the mother of his 3 oldest children for a Floozy named Marla Maples, who had her Meal Ticket one kid and laid back to enjoy the hood life, only to be dumped for Melania when Trump became bored with Maples.
I have never been a Trump fan. Ever.
Also, “what-about-ism” won’t work in this scenario. If the Democrats had behaved as poorly as the Republicans did, February 7th, I would have come down hard on them, too.
The reality is that these examples of extreme political divisions do not accomplish anything positive for Americans. We need to find common ground and see our shared values. We need to come together and work together to make America the best it can be. That doesn’t involve behaving like a bunch of spoiled toddlers during a presidential speech.
I stand by what I’ve written here. If this is how Republicans behave in a congressional meeting, what is going to stop them from ratcheting up the aggression and the abuse?
There has been a death of civility. I’m not the only American writer to write about this very dynamic taking place. It’s a reality and it’s been written about by writers of far more significance than me.
You should know I'm not a Trump fan. I have never been a Trump fan. I'm not totally in love with Biden either but I detest Trump. As I believe Trump is capable of anything, and have seen him in action for the past 40 years, in the public media, there is nothing I would put past him. He has demonstrated he's a pathological liar, in the clinical context of the term, and that he's also a malignant narcissist and a sociopath. His blatant, documented lies run into the thousands. So, do I believe he engaged in seditious conduct, and colluded with Russia, and any other number of other low and high level crimes while in the White House? Yes, I do.
I would respectfully encourage you to reevaluate this issue. Clear and compelling evidence that exonerates Trump and points directly to the Clinton’s, the FBI and the DOJ is widely available. The Epoch Times is a good place to start though many other alt media sources have beat this story to death as well.
Where do you think the accusations of Russia Collusion originated? Hint: Hillary's Campaign. Don't you at least want to pull the string a little and see where it goes???
You should know that before Trump ran for office, he was quite well-liked and respected, and known for several very generous deeds. Celebrities and even Democrat politicians were friends with him. It was only when he ran against Hillary that the knives came out, and every effort was made to sully and poison his image. Examine the nature and origin of your deep hatred for Trump. It may reveal more about you than of Trump.
As I’ve said, folks can actually agree to disagree.
I don’t hate anyone, but I do believe in sharing information and opinions. They’re not always going to be in agreement with everyone at any given time.
What do you doubt? That, among many other things, Trump ran a very popular and successful TV show called "The Apprentice"? You say you are a "Gonzo journalist." No journalistic curiosity?
Brilliant analysis of the barn yard bullies the Republicans have become. I believe the last good Republican was Eisenhour who must be turning over in his grave.

Typical head in the sand Trumper. Too stupid to comment further. DT is a traitor.

Pelosi ripping up DT's speech was brilliant and if you approve of his ass-ness you are as ill as he.

One question. Do you believe Trump colluded with Russia to steal the 2020 election?
You should know I'm not a Trump fan. I have never been a Trump fan. I'm not totally in love with Biden either but I detest Trump. As I believe Trump is capable of anything, and have seen him in action for the past 40 years, in the public media, there is nothing I would put past him. Stop switching the conversation. Not talking about Clinton,...
Don, the Russia Collusion hoax and the Hillary Clinton Campaign are inextricably linked. Don’t take my word for it though, go see for yourself.
The Clintons are another issue and have nothing whatsoever to do with Trumps crimes, and longstanding ties to Vladimir Putin.
Re-evaluate what? Frankly I find that suggestion hilarious.
😊

Riiight. Yeah, I doubt that. LOl…
