(PORTLAND, OR) July 30, 2024.
Today, at around 4:53 pm, I got a message from a writer friend, the Tama Janowitz! Yes, that Tama Janowitz. Do I sound a little star struck? Well, I guess I am.
TV celebrities don’t impress me much, or famous pop singers, or even famous film stars, but superstars in the world of writing and literature DO impress me!
Today, I got a wonderful blurb from Tama Janowitz, author of the international hit, Slaves of New York, for my new book, coming soon, called We Learned to Live in the Castle: Stories, which comes out maybe at the end of this year, or the beginning of 2025, we will see.
Thank you to Tama Janowitz SOOOO much! I am eternally grateful!
Scaldingly honest - ruthlessly enthralling - what it’s like and what it means in the United States to come from the wrong side of the tracks - a mesmerizing, heartfelt account.
~Tama Janowitz, author of Slaves of New York and Scream: A Memoir of Glamour and Dysfunction
Also, by Tama Janowitz, these are some of my favorites!

A Cannibal in Manhattan, 1988

Peyton Amberg: A Novel, 2003
Area Code 212: New York Days, New York Nights, 2004
A Certain Age, 2016
Slaves of New York - Expanded Edition, 2016
Be sure to buy copies of Tama Janowitz's large body of work! Her books are not only extremely insightful and entertaining but they will literally teach you some of the tools of writing, particularly how to effectively write about place!
